Glass and Ceramic Artist
My work aims to highlight the environmental tragedies that face our planet and explore their impact on our planet's ecosystems. To me, showing the delicacy and importance of the natural world is vital, using art as a powerful medium to affect and influence, whilst triggering emotional responses within people. I hope to evoke a deeper appreciation and consideration for the extraordinary organisms that still remain on our planet. I want to show that despite risking losing these creatures forever, there is still hope for the future if we work together to put an end to destructive behaviours before it is too late.
Pieces like these are often displayed in exhibitions where I select a charity personal to me, donating a percentage of the proceeds at the end of the show. I have often used this opportunity to raise money for Devon Wildlife Trust, to help fund conservation.
Being continuously driven to question my own impact on the environment, I now use recycled and upcycled glass whenever possible. This means that very limited new material is used to create my pieces. I spend a considerable amount of time searching for suitable items to give new meaningful purpose to, knowing that they may otherwise be discarded. However, in situations where my client requests, I can produce my bespoke engravings on pristine new crystal. These extra special items are usually for occasions such as weddings or for remembrance pieces, where the sentimental value will ensure the item is cherished for years to come and avoid becoming part of our disposable culture.
